I think it would be nice if the app paused the vm when there are no apps to display. Saves battery life, resources and will remove overhead introduced by running windows in the background all the time, especially with how much of a hog it is.

The latest release should have this feature, can you test if works as expected and what could be improved. After you update the linux component, you will need to logout and login again for background service to use updated version !

Can you please check the latest release, i made some changes and reduced the minium delay for suspend !
You will need to logout and login again for linux background service to update.

If this does not work as expected can you help me with logs ?

I tried it, seems to be working fine except when the vm is started after the pause timeout, in that case the client immediately pauses it, which is somewat annoying

Can you check if /tmp/cassowary-vm-state-suspend.state exists when VM is suspended and right when any app is launched that file is removed and /tmp/cassowary-app-launched.state exists. the later file is resonsible to stop vm from suspending right after being resumed when an application is launched !
