Did the syntax change in the last few versions? Or was a bug introduced? Or what?

Some had / have case-based syntax errors (Return instead of return, Eol instead of EoL).

But one fails with the literal string "." but succeeds when that's replaced with "/", which suggests some kind of scanning problem (probably in the UTF-8 decoding functions.)
