It is very hard to answer your question without knowing anything about your source code.

Can you please

  1. post the relevant part of your source code,
  2. indicate whether you are compiling via XeLaTeX or LuaLaTeX, and
  3. indicate which TeX distribution (including the version/year of installation) you are using?

Okay, I downloaded Tectonic and did some digging. I can confirm that compiling with Tectonic results in this large number of “warnings.”

It seems that Tectonic is not using the most recent version of TeX Live. More specifically, the inter.sty file that it uses is from 2021/04/16. That file contains a line

\ifxetex\XeTeXtracingfonts=1\fi

which is responsible for the warning messages. (This line is deactivated in more recent versions of inter.sty.)

The warning messages seem harmless to me. All they indicate is that there were some floating-point errors: The requested font size should have been exactly 12pt, but it was either 11.99997pt or 12.00003pt.

I have deactivated the respective line in the attached inter.txt file. (GitHub won’t allow me to upload .sty files.) If you save that file as inter.sty in the folder that contains the TeX document that you wish to compile, the warning messages will disappear.

'\ifxetex\XeTeXtracingfonts=1\fi' removed from *.sty-file, as Bob Tennent did for his font-packages.

A diff is not so easy. Tectonic stores all packages that it downloads under totally obscure names in its cache folder (see https://docs.rs/tectonic_io_base/latest/tectonic_io_base/app_dirs/fn.ensure_user_cache_dir.html). I had to search for the respective file via a terminal command (macOS) ...

find . -type f -exec grep -H 'Ebinger' {} \;

The content of inter.txt is the content of the file that I found (except, of course, that I disabled line 104), and it states the date.
