http://www.arenajunkies.com/topic/19398-tauren-swing-range-all/
http://www.dual-boxing.com/archive/index.php/t-7338.html

Having tried out an experiment with a Gnome, Dwarf, and Male Draenei and finding out that they all have the exact same melee range I was unconvinced that Tauren had a longer melee range than the other classes as clearly a Male Draenei would a longer melee range than a Gnome if this were true right? So I dismissed it as a rumor.

However, tonight after I had finished boosting my new Warrior team through SM I decided to take a break from that bore and level up my weapon skills in tanaris just for the hell of it having my BE pally tank mobs while my warriors and shaman wail away on the tanked mob. Well anyways since I have both a female Orc Warrior and a Male Tauren warrior I tested the rumor out and holy crap its true! The tauren were definitely hitting from farther away than my orc. I tried several times under different situations just to make sure it wasn't lag or some BS but it held true every time.

Unfornately there are really only 2 classes that will benefit from this, Tauren Warrior and Tauren Enhancement shaman. As it turns out Feral forms have a 5 yd melee range even for Tauren not the 8-9 yds that their humanoid forum has, so tauren feral druids followers won't get the same benefit. However if you want to use a Tauren feral druid as a tank and have Tauren melee followers you should still be able to get the same benefit out of that set-up :)

There are lot of benefits from it and a lot of drawbacks.

8y melee range allows you eg to melee lurker without getting whirlwinds. Or dps Lootreaver without getting pounding.

In PvP there are a lot of benefits from it. But for example tauren warrior to intercept tauren shaman has to run 16+ yards.
Tauren can be easily dpsed thru pillars in nagrand arena.
Its way easier to catch tauren druid than it is to catch nelf. Even if you intercept far from tauren druid you can still hamstring him. Tauren hunter's shoot range starts at 8 yards not 5(HUGE DRAWBACK)
Tbh i always regarded it as drawback rather than benefit.

Looking at these post makes me believe that Taurens probably have a larger combat reach than other races.
I believe it is currently set at 1.5 yards for all races? It should probably be twice as much for taurens or perhaps even more?

patch 2.4.2 video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjMRzrCOo2w
Source: http://www.warcraftmovies.com/movieview.php?id=82055

I tested the 0:42 spot in the video with a non-tauren and a tauren by using the melee leeway mechanic on the server and it seemed to be similar range.

The Tauren warr vs Tauren druid in the video obviously makes much longer since both are taurens, which explains the obnoxious long range.

proof in action: https://youtu.be/oo_vcsdBKXc?t=12m
-doesn't get very close with Intercept(which is because of this too), yet still able to hit the tauren right away

**EDIT:**Probably more complicated than how I explained it

It was definitely only autohits. It both, gets you hit and makes you hit through pillars.
I also believe gnomes had smaller hitboxes?

If it was fixed in WoTLK, then shouldn't it be considered a bug and therefore fixed on CC? I doubt it was intentional.

@Peonstomperx
Autoattacks ignores line of sight, abilties do not.
Since people were talking about not being able to intercept & hunters not able to shootat as close range as other races, it's most definitely a bounding radius thing which then also means that since the "yards" starts counting 2 yards further away from you then you and those who attack you gain 2 extra yards for all spells.

@ohfug Pretty sure this was intentional by Blizzard since Taurens are big.

@Schaka hmm, not sure about gnomes, but the first quote in my post states that some dude tested it as Gnome, Dwarf, and Male Draenei and they all had the same range.

Taurens had +2 yard its true but It was a bug which blizzard fixed before the 1. illidan kill. It shouldnt be on corecraft imo.

@Doope if they fixed something they probably just changed something with Illidan, because Taurens still had this post 2.4

I have no proof, but I remember vividly standing just out of the aoe range of on our first kill of The Lurker Below, on my Tauren Warrior, the other non-tauren melee had to move in and out
