As mentioned in celery/celery#4109, the Kombu build is failing on Travis. This ticket serves as a place for discussion about ideas of cause and resolution to the build failures.
It was suggested that it began in #764, which seems feasible. #768 reduced warnings but failed to fix the build.
I can reproduce this on my machine with the following command (will require some modules such as sphinx to be installed): sphinx-build -b apicheck -d .tox/apicheck/tmp/doctrees docs docs/_build/apicheck.
Found the issue in sphinx_celery. It is caused by Github issue references (e.g. Issue #651) in the Changelog. If you add the refdomain key here, the issue disappears. I haven't found out the root cause of why the issue appeared now.
In the same project, the documentation link for msgpack-python has also been modified, so we should update this as well.

The strange thing is that I can remove all the changes added by #764 and the build still fails.
