The bash completion is very ugly at the moment. It really needs someone with a lot more bash skills then I have to improve it. In particular there's lots of ugliness due to the way = (think long option arguments) is one of the $COMP_WORDBREAKS, which git manages to work around via majik which I don't entirely understand.
