How to change legend label font color dynamically based on chart data value?

I am able to change the font color of the legend label easily with:

const options = {
      legend: {
        labels: {
          fontColor: "blue",
        }
      }
    }

But how could each label color be different based on the data value in the chart? For instance, if the value in the chart was 1, the font color would be red, if 2, then orange, etc.

Thanks for the reply. I have updated to the current version and now have the ability to change the individual font colors.

I have a Doughnut chart that has a legend with a generateLabels function that changes the text color based on the graph color.

However, I need the chart to update like it used to with its default behavior and collapse the data in the chart if the legend item is "hidden". I'm able to do it manually, but it's with hard coded values:

              const iData = labs.indexOf(legendItem.text);
              metaData[iData].hidden ? myChart.datasets[0].data[iData] = 0 :

How can I get the original behavior of the chart updating when the legend item has strikethrough and is "hidden"?
Is there an easier way to update the fontColor that doesn't affect the actual chart that I'm not seeing? -Thank you
