Please Explain in Detail...

Looks like Pie and Doughnut overriding legend plugin generateLabels so there is no datasetIndex index at all.

Your Proposal for Changes

Mention this fact so it will be clear or add support for Pie charts.

Looks like for Pie charts chart.toggleDataVisibility(item.index); should be used instead of setDatasetVisibility.
