What device + iOS version are you on?

iPhone 8 Plus, iOS 13.2.2

What checkra1n version are you using?

0.9.1

What are the steps to reproduce the issue?

  1. Successfully jailbreak the iPhone
  2. Install Cydia
  3. Start installation of hid-support package through Cydia

What do you expect, and what is happening instead?

  1. I expect that the installation runs through successfully, but the installation hangs (circle turning). Rebooted the phone, see 5.

  2. When rebooting the device (recovering from this hanging state) the device is not booting anymore. Try to fix that by restoring the iPhone, see 6.

  3. Restoring with "iTunes" in recovery mode is working, but the device cannot be activated anymore. The message "Unable to Activate. An update is required to activate your iPhone" is shown. In the top left corner of the screen there is the message No Service, which seems to be wrong and maybe related to the issue?

Re-Jailbreaking the iPhone with checkra1n works, but I'm still stuck at the activation step :(

Any chance to recover the device?

Any other info, error logs, screenshots, ...?

Let me know if I can provide any further information to help understand/fix this problem.

Have you tried updating the phone via iTunes/using futurerestore to manually update to the newest IPSW?

Unfortunately this did not help either.
I've downloaded and installed iPhone_5.5_P3_13.2.2_17B102_Restore.ipsw, but after that I still get the Unable to Activate. An update is required to activate your iPhone error during the iPhone setup steps.

Does your IMEI show fine via iTunes?
Or is the modem APFS volume nuked?

Does your IMEI show fine via iTunes?

In the finder I can see the iPhone with Serial and UDID. Where could I see the IMEI?

finder2

finder1

Or is the modem APFS volume nuked?

This I don't know how to check.

If can't restore either till now, use the tool to fix iPhone system problem, stuck on once screen and can't go on. But may lose data in iPhone.

@daitourey I've tried everything listed under Part 1: How to Fix Dead iPhone for Free without success. Since I'm ok with losing all the data I haven't tried the steps listed under Part 2: How to Fix Dead iPhone Without Any Data Loss.

Looks like the iPhone my broken/useless after installing the jailbreak :(

Any help is still welcome.

Gonna ping @nullpixel / @kpwn as I'm actually not to sure how checkra1n caused this / what you can do from here. Best of luck.

Here's a bypass to get more usability out of a device with the "unable to activate an update is required" problem (not a complete fix)

Thanks @bobsagut. Works!

Does anybody has experience with the Apple Support and knows if an iPhone with the "No Service" issue gets replaced, if there is still valid warranty.

Or can they see that there was once a jailbreak on the iPhone. Even though the firmware has been restored afterwards?

Depends what you’re going into warranty for. Not an AS expert by any means but it’s definitely worth a shot.
