Polynya_EGU_TC

Codes to reproduce the results of Heuzé and Lemos (subm 2020), under revision for The Cryosphere.


To reproduce section 3.1 (reference polynya dates from NSIDC):

1- produce your own longitude and latitude grid adapted to your NSIDC data, or use lat_nsidc.dat and lon_nsidc.dat;

2- use get_polynya_dates.m and/or edge_sic.m on already downloaded NSIDC sea ice concentration data.


To reproduce section 3.2 (criterion determination by comparing years with / without polynya):

1- apply cloud filter, produce human-readable dates, and put all APP images into one matrix per band using prepare_APP.m;

2- the geographical and temporal tests of section 3.2 are all in find_criterion_APP.m.


To reproduce appendix A (cloud mask validation), use in this order:

1- readmodis.py then cloud_from_MYD35.m on already downloaded MYD35_L2 data;

2- cloud_from_APP.m on already downloaded APP data;

3- comparecloudmasks.m on the output generated by steps 1 and 2.
