Hello and good day all, I'm loving this OS, But one thing disliking is the no desktop version, Resident evil 2 can be played but one issue, It needs a DLL file added in so the cut scenes do not get stuck in a boot loop, With out access to a desktop to traverse to the games save file I and others got Jo way to correct that minor issue, And with RE3 fast approaching I'm willing to bet it will need that same file to run.

Any way to fix this?

You can use the command line or an ftp program after you enable ftp in Steam Buddy (web interface). I am not sure that simply adding the dll will make the videos play though.

Sadly the only fix for the infinite boot loop loading in Resident evil 2 remake is the mfplat.DLL, this is a known problem with this game and running it on Linux, Also never had to use a ftp, How do I start itl And where are the game files saved in this is as well? Since this DLL has to be placed with the .exe of re2

GamerOS runs Steam Buddy (a web interface mostly for managing non-Steam games) which has an option to enable an FTP server. Check out https://github.com/gamer-os/steam-buddy, but you can connect to it by opening a browser on another computer and entering gameros.local or the IP address of your GamerOS machine.

In Steam Buddy, you click on the cog icon on the top right and select Settings, there you can enable FTP. Once enabled you can connect to the FTP server on your GamerOS machine and upload files through any FTP client program.

The game files will be under ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/.

Hope that helps!

Hello, I sadly ran into a brick wall, I need to run wine-staging to install a few other files, And not sure how to go about it, -Sighs- Loving this OS and do not want to change again, Hate to ask but would you happen to have RE2 remake on steam? or know of someone whom does? I need to get a copy of some of their files to install them with mine so it can run in a linux distro i guess now.

If you are talking about the mfplat work around, I believe you need wine and some other packages. GamerOS comes as a read only system by default. However, if you plug in a keyboard and press ctrl-alt-f3 you can get to a terminal. Log in with username gamer and password gamer.
Now run the command: sudo frzr-unlock. This will make the system read-write.

At this point you can use pacman to install any additional packages needed to run the mfplat work around.

Just note that the added packages will be removed after the next system update.

What do you need wine-staging for though? My understanding is you just need to run the mfplat install script with wine and then you can run the game with proton. Check out the RE2 entry on protondb.com for info on the workaround.

Ideally, I would love to have RE2 and other games affected by this issue working out of the box on GamerOS, but there are many hurdles. There is the legal issue of mfplat, but there is also the issue of having to include wine and python2 just for this workaround. That would increase the size of the system quite dramatically.

Looks like there is some hope this will get fixed in a future version of Wine/Proton. There was a recent post that a developer is working on it.

Please see #74 for some possible workarounds.

The short answer is that the Steam client UI for audio settings seems to be unreliable and/or busted.
Some alternatives are suggested in the linked issue.
