Copyright Text Surrounded by "Spans" in PDF conversion

When you select to enforce copyright on a work, and then publish as a pdf, the word copyright on the front matter page is visibly surrounded by spans, like this:

Seems like something when wrong in the function calling for "copyright". I didn't test for Creative Commons, so might want to check that as well.
