I get a lot of links to tweets or twitter accounts, either in chats or from surfing around, and I think it would be cool if I could copy-paste them somewhere in TweetDuck to open them there. Since they open in the regular twitter interface by default, you're SOL if you want to follow/like/retweet from a different account from your primary.
I looked into making this automatic when clicking the link, and it doesn't appear to be possible (although if we can find a way, awesome). It would probably have to be a part of the UI somehow, either in the right click menu, or by pasting a link into the search box - which I think would be rather intuitive.

You can drag tweet links onto a column in the app, should work anywhere links are clickable

  • chat apps like Discord work great
  • unfortunately Twitter removed the ability to click tweet timestamps, but if you have a tweet open in the browser, you can drag a link directly from the address bar

There is no equivalent for usernames, but I can add that. Right now the fastest way is to copy/paste a handle into the search bar.

@chylex That would be awesome. A way to do it from the keyboard or right click menu would be handy too, but dragging and dropping is still way better than having to deal with the standard Twitter interface every time I open a link in another application.

Theoretically, the only way URLs could work would be with some third-party app that checks all opened URLs and directs them to the appropriate app, I'm sure something like that exists but there's still no support in TweetDuck for handling opened URLs.

I'm not sure how it could work intuitively in another way - opening tweets requires a column which works well with dragging, not well with keyboard or opening a URL, and might work with a context menu but there is no per-column context menu at the moment.
