How do I set up the Irc settings to be able to connect to an IRC channel, e.g. irc://chat.freenode.net/#haxeflixel?

You should consider adding setup instructions to the README.md.

Additionally, when I join a IRC channel from another client I get the welcome message, a message that I have joined and a list of current members in that channel - here I get absolutely no feedback that I've successfully joined the channel. Something to consider adding...

I'll see about updating the readme. The welcome could be tricky because that message is dependent on the irc server used. If you want, open a new issue for the welcome message, maybe there is a common approach.
