gh repo create should have an option to add remote without clone seperately

The use case here is I am in some folder already working on a new repo, I git init then gh repo create, it would be great if once of the options within gh repo create is to set git remote add origin {new-repo-remote} so then I can commit and push without having to manually add it.

gh repo create --source . will add an "origin" remote pointing to the GitHub repo you already created.

If the current branch already has commits, gh repo create --source . --push will add a remote and automatically push to it.

How would I just create a feature branch using the gh cli?
Let's say I'm on the main branch of a repo my-project.
It has a remote branch at url/user/my-project and I want to add a new feature.
Currently I take the scenic route.
git branch new-feature && git checkout new-feature
Come to github.com, use the dropdown to create a remote new-feature branch.
Return to my local project.
git push --set-upstream main new-feature
Reading through the manual I only see gh pr checkout and I don't want to create a PR just yet. Is there a way to utilize the gh tool to create branches or should I just stick with git push —-set-stream?

As of now gh does not have branch creating functionality. You should continue to use git push. One thing to note is that you shouldn't need to manually go to github.com to create the branch, using git push will create the branch on github.com for you. Hopefully that saves you an extra step in your workflow.
