Thursday we got over 2800 installs for the first time.
Several might not bring the persistence to explore for 3-5 minutes.

Many features: - Good for permanent users - 'overwhelming' for new users.

  • So it will be good, if we come up with something easy but meaningfully ?
    • A demo player / "super.youtube.com with several of our features activated? (opening at installation) and with ImprovedTube in a sidebar that doesnt disappear there easily, like extension popups)

I think a tutorial would be nice, maybe a "tour" in the popup itself or some YouTube videos to explain the features and how the extension works.

One thing that I find extremely annoying when working with extensions is having new windows with "welcoming" forced to you.

I would find it much nicer to have the extension contain a notice when opened for the first time, asking you to either click "learn more" or a "guide" button (which redirects you to the side for information) and a "no thanks" button if you are already familiar with the extension.

If you end up adding this feature, please have a flag be set in the settings or settings file (like "tutorial_shown = 1"), with an optional toggle to view the tutorial again in the options menu.

This would make updating or re-installation with the settings less annoying for users that already viewed it.

I still believe that showing a hint on a tutorial would be best implemented on extension activate (clicked) with it asking you if you want a tutorial to be shown. Selecting "skip" would set the tutorial shown value in settings to true, and it will no longer show up unless manually triggered again or the settings data is cleared or reset.
