user request black background. could be simple toggle between black and white 
backgrounds. i 
noticed that the blue (debug) text is a little dark on a black background.

a  more robust solution might allow "themes" which could specify the colors of 
all text and the background color.

fixed in 1.5.1. add preferences > background color. can choose from black / 
white.
