We're kind of fucked here. GHDL is not well maintained and apparently pretty bad.

Theoretically, we can probably use altera or xilinx free packages, but the whole licensing and installation process is pretty horrifying.

Oh god, the licensing is super bad; also they are way slower than ghdl.

There's been an effort to revive ghdl: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ghdl-updates/
