The instructors say the user needs to chmod 2 cache directories in the magpie folder but currently those cache directories don't exist in the repository. Is the user supposed to create them?

No, it looks like github will not sync empty directories-- I put stub text files in there so the directories would be pushed.

As an extra I have a cron script I use on the busy main site to flush the directories, will add it once we start building some doc pages.

Looks like another way to work it would be a .gitignore file in there (which would be hidden for users) http://stackoverflow.com/a/932982/2236622 Didn't realize Git can't respect a folder structure if there aren't files in there. That's good to know.

One of these days I might even learn how to do a pull request and offer up fixes for issues instead of just pointing them out. But don't get your hopes up! ;-)
