On iOS, users have the option to give the app permission to read a selected number of photos. One user did this, and was unable to attached their selected photos to a catch. What happened was they went to Browse > selected the photo > Add, and instead of going to the select species page, the app stayed on the select photos page.
Granting the app full permission solved the issue. I was unable to reproduce the behaviour on my iPhone.
It's likely a problem with Apple's permission handling, rather than Anglers' Log, but I'm logging this bug to come back to it later if it becomes more of an issue.
