Since the release of ec2-write-memory-metrics Amazon has released "Amazon CloudWatch Monitoring Scripts for Linux" - it is recommended that "Amazon CloudWatch Monitoring Scripts for Linux" be used instead. The location for download is here: http://aws.amazon.com/code/8720044071969977
Overview
ec2-write-storage-used will write storage-used metrics (as a percentage of space used) from Linux based AMIs to Amazon's Cloudwatch.
