Hi all,

Here is the suggested proposal for GSoC 2024: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T356237

Note: You are also free to imagine your own proposal if you prefer. Or even apply with two proposals: the proposal you imagined + the suggested proposal.

@nicolas-raoul, if we want to discuss possible solutions or ideal behaviour of the upload queue (points 1 A and B of the suggested proposal, should we do it here, or a new issue is to be created, as these don't seem to have an issue of their own?

Huge thanks to everyone who sent proposals!

We had several good candidates neck-to-neck so it was hard to make a choice, but in the end we had to choose only one candidate (we are limited by the number of people who are willing to mentor, this year only Ritika and myself as you know, and we need two mentors per GSoC project).

Congratulations to @kanahia1!
The high quality and challengingness of Kanahia's pull request (seamlessly replaced Mapbox with OsmDroid, without any significantly breaking changes), great communication, and help to other candidates were the differentiators.

As I noted above, other candidates were very close so it was difficult to choose just one. If you were not selected, I understand your disappointment but please do not feel bad about yourself, and of course you are more than welcome to try again in the future with Commons or with another group, and also stay involved in open source in general. Thanks again everyone! :-)
