Working on custom sensors, posted info at RepRap forum Environmental Monitoring Network. Still in development phase, interest to support them ? Also while I was looking at Air-Quality-Web site, it seemed that some visual optimization might be recommendable.

We have a discussion group https://mattermost.connectedhumber.org with a number of channels including Project:Air Monitoring. Probably a better place for a detailed discussion/invitation.

Your SPS30 sensor (first I've heard of it) looks very similar to a PMS7003 which I use. The rest of the group have used SDS011.

It's a simple matter to add new sensors to our map if that's the way you want to go. We have an API that allows people to access the data.

We did make 4 trial sensors based on the SDS011 for the local council - recent changes to TTN have caused some problems with gateways but we'll get over that when the council installs more V3 gateways.

The rest of the group connect their sensors at home to our server using WiFi & MQTT.

I'm curious why the SPS30 manufacturer thinks the sensor will last 10 years. In an outdoor environment they can clog up. On RS Components the sensor costs £40+ The PMS7003 and SDS011 roll in around £15. Ours have been running for over 2 years at the moment.

Visual optimisations? - a bit of a tease as you haven't been specific.

As I said, join our mattermost discussion site to talk with us.

Hey there! Can you elaborate on what you mean by visual optimisation please? It's very difficult to do anything meaningful without concrete goals to work towards.

@sbrl , I think we already have discussed some of the issues, but to summarize:

  • Sensor window position
  • Configuration the position of menu – left, right side
  • Representing sensor area with a circle or hexagon. Also, it would be useful if the pointer, area color represent the actual particle or gas concentration, air quality index etc.
  • On the right bottom there is a color map, not clear what it represents ?

  • The colour map is the colour of the marker pins, but there seems to be a bug that prevents the colour from appearing always
  • The position of the pop up is controlled by Leaflet, so making this static would require a complete rewrite.
  • I could potentially change the pin to be a hexagon instead, if that's what you're asking @mtk11?
  • I don't know what you mean by "Configuration the position of menu".

I think he means be able to drag the menu to a different place. Actual concentration is a contentious issue since the sensors in use are not calibrated and can have errors of around 15%.

Ah, I meant that I don't know which bit of the interface @mtk11 is referring to be "menu".

@sbrl It would be useful if the position of the settings box is configurable. Currently it appears on the bottom left. Having a setting and users to choose whether they would prefer pin or hexagon for sensor position ? The sensor info/data pop up window is trimmed when the sensor is close to the top. Possibility to slide down the whole map in such cases ?

I think centering the map/pop-up on screen would be nice. So when someone clicks on a marker that and the pop-up are centered. I have had to scroll the page a number of times when viewing sensor charts etc. Of course, the visual jump may be a bit irritating - one can but try.
