Terminal crashes when using 'cd'

iTerm and built in terminal break on these commands with no errors:

cd /
cd /any/path/starting/with/slash
cd ~ && cd .. && cd .. # breaks when I get to the / path

and there were a few others. I have tried disabling things but cannot locate what is causing the issue so far.

Using homebrew's bash on Mavericks?

Check this Homebrew/legacy-homebrew#23470.

Yea that fixed the issue. so it was related to bash then. Thanks.
