It is very nice to have customizable columns for Entries as standard now (like the DashCols plugin used to provide).

What DashCols did that 2.5 lacks, however, was the ability to sort by any of the columns that one might choose. I really liked that feature (sorting by a date field other than posted or expires).

If you wanted to one-up DashCols, then make it so you can just click on the heading to adjust the sorting.

Hopefully this is added to core shortly, but I hacked together a small plugin to sort it out (eh) for the interim: https://github.com/mmikkel/CpSortableCustomColumns-Craft – hopefully it'll prove useful for someone.

+100, I have a client that desperately needs this feature. They have thousands of entries, and need to be able to sort them by custom column values.

DashCols did this so well... perhaps Mats Mikkel Rummelhoff would be willing to share his code. :)

This would be extremely useful - client has a large collection of events that could usefully be organised by date

Yes please! Seems like the logical final piece to this puzzle...

It would also be very useful to be able to limit the characters of fields. Default would be fine, optional settings would be better.
