Cryptocat Appimage not starting #268

I just installed Ubuntu (18.04) on a VPS and also wanted to use Cryptocat to quickly send notes and files back and forth. Only after downloading the Cryptocat AppImage file, enabling it and trying to run it nothing (!) happens. I would like to provide more details but I simply don't have any.
Cryptocat is simply doing nothing when I try to start it.
Can anybody explain to me why? ...and preferably how to fix it?

FYI: I am a Linux rookie, it was rather complicated to only get the Ubuntu server with the GUI up and running. Please keep that in mind if/when you are trying to explain something. ;)

FYI: I switched back to 16.04 (because of some other problems) and there it's working...
