Macs Fan Control was working as expected on this MacBook Air 13" 2020, i3, with macOS Ventura. I recently updated to macOS Sonoma 14.3 and then 14.3.1, and in both versions there is an intermittent issue:
Macs Fan Control works properly when the computer is running
if I close the lid to put the device to sleep, or, if manually select Sleep and then close the lid, the fans then run on maximum until the battery depletes
however, if I first Quit Macs Fan Control, and then put the computer to sleep or close the lid, it sleeps properly (no fan running or at most for a couple of seconds then quiet, battery does not drain)
this is intermittent - sometimes with Macs Fan Control running it sleeps fine -- but reliably, if it happens and I open / wake the MacBook Air and quit Macs Fan Control, then close the lid / select sleep, it goes to sleep normally
I always have MFC auto-run on startup/login
lately the issue has occurred less frequently so it may be difficult to do trouble-shooting, I did not make any system changes or other app installs and the room ambient temperature / desk temperature is warming as I'm in the northern hemisphere (I use this device on a marble table which is normally cool to the touch)
Since I keep the fans at an RPM that I can't hear, I understand the CPU is running slightly hot and may shorten its life, and so when the device sleeps if Macs Fan Control stops a few seconds of high speed fan to cool it off by the macOS controllers makes sense and is fine - but, as I mentioned, when the issue occurs, the fans just keep running "interrupting" sleep unless I manually quit MFC. And this particular mac model - the fans are very annoyingly loud so often, I definitely want MFC running when I'm using it!! MFC is great I couldn't use the computer without it the fan noise is so irritating on this model. I also have both a 2014 MacBook Air mini and a 2022 M1 MacBook Air and don't use MFC on either as the fans are not annoying. The 2020 i3 is dreadful without MFC.
The problem persists despite the beta. New tech log attached. Again the issue is: Pro version works properly when MacBook Air 2020 Intel i3 is open and running. If I put the MacBook to Sleep, or close the lid to go to Sleep (both), after a few seconds, the fan then runs on maximum indefinitely if Macs Fan Control Pro is running in background.
