This would all be integrated into the gem installation right? You are obviously fond of cmake and cpack, but I think it may be overcomplicating your build system. I would be happy to discuss...

I'm fond of using traditional C++ tools for a C++ project ;) Ideally Ruby should not be needed. Can you point me to any C++ project (not a Ruby extension) that uses Rake as a build system? I'd like to see what can be done (i.e. Visual Studio support, etc.).
