The mdnotes plugin has an option to add the .md to the item in Zotero after it's created. Is there any chance of reproducing that feature in this beautiful plugin?

Hi @huachuman — If I'm understanding the correctly, this functionality already exists.

MarkDBConnect scans for MD files when Zotero launches and will associate all MD files that match the criteria with Zotero items. With Zotero already open, you can trigger an update from the Tools menu Tools > MarkDBConnect Sync Tags.

So for instance, with Obsidian and Zotero open, make a new reading note in Obsidian, and then trigger MarkDBConnect Sync Tags in Zotero for an immediate sync (but manual syncing isn't necessary in order to associate the MD file and Zotero item; the sync will happen automatically the next time Zotero is launched).

Is there some functionality still missing?

Thanks for your response. I may not have given enough detail as to what I'm hoping for.

What mdnotes does is attach the corresponding .md file link as an item to the Zotero entry the same way a PDF of webpage snapshot shows up, so that it can be seen and double clicked when you expand to show the files for the entry. That way, you can see at a glance which entries have .md notes for them.

As far as I know with markdbconnect it's only possible to see that an item has an obsidian note once the user right clicks an item and visually scans through the context menu to look for the item.

Does that make sense?

So the idea is to get something like this:

Ah, yeah I think that's feasible, I'll take a look.

But with regards to

As far as I know with markdbconnect it's only possible to see that an item has an obsidian note once the user right clicks an item and visually scans through the context menu to look for the item.

One of the main design goals of MarkDBConnect was to make it readily visible which Zotero items have associated MD notes, without needing to expand items or open the contextual menu, by adding a colored tag to Zotero items.

E.g. the items with the blue tag are associated with MD notes. If you don't have that set up check out the instructions in the README

Oh, I wasn't aware of that feature. That's too bad though, I've already used up all my tag colors with emoji tags for organization purposes so I won't be able to dedicate another tag just to tell me if I have an associated note.

On that note, I did make a request to the Zotero team to let us display more color/emoji tags beside items since we only have the ability to add 9 right now. But I doubt it will go anywhere. Those guys area really busy.
