On a slow connection over the WAN certain operations run very slowly due to the volume of data dumped to the transcript (Metacello load for example) and the data being dumped is relatively uninteresting unless there is an issue) ... on the other hand, some operations are worth paying the price for slowness because the interactive transcript information is very interesting ...
It should be possible to create a command (and Smalltalk api disableDuring:(?)) to enable/disable remote transcript updates and allow the user to decide when to turn on and off the client transcript (which has to be done on the server) ...
Once this command is in place, need to come up with an option/limit for disabling client updates during loads ... and possible other things as well ...
