It would be a fine thing to have more than 8+8 colors available on the linux console. Even 256 would vastly improve the quality of life; full 24-bit support would make it a wholly usable environment.
Research why the linux console has stuck to 8+8 for all these years. Surely we're not the first person to want this functionality, and I doubt it could be very hard. Is there longstanding/serious opposition? Would there be a difficult "political"/social battle? Vain hopes in the moribund fbterm or defunct kmscon?
If not, I think it's high time someone blew the roof off the linux console. It seems reasonable enough that I would be that person [shrug].
It would furthermore be a fine thing to handle larger fonts.
