Bug/Feaure: I'm in! #17
Comments
For NaNoGenMo I'm attempting to patch one of my favorite computer games, NetHack, to generate a novel or at least some form of data to be converted into a novel derived from the players interaction. If I cal pull that off, I hope to use one of the already available Nethack bots to play the game and generate a text from its play. This way the novel totally computer generated. The "Tales of Ascension" series will be like an endless series of books (as the bot will likely never win nethack) meant to somewhat parody never ending fantasy novel series like The Wheel of Time or Game of Thrones. Once complete I intend to share the nethack patch so that anyone can try to generate a book from their play. This is something I've always wanted to do and is way out of my area of expertise! Just this morning I finally compiled vanilla nethack on Linux so I've still got a lot of work to do. |
NaNoGenMo is the perfect excuse to attack such projects. |
@MichaelPaulukonis Agreed! 💃 |
Great idea! I wanted to do something similar, but gave up way sooner than you did cause it's way out of my league, too. Good luck! :) I started playing around with Nethack source a while back to see if I could get a bot out of it. The only progress I made was to comment out a line that checked to make sure you were in a TTY window so I could run it via pipes (iirc). |

Did you get any farther with this? |
Sounds fun!
