Sean O’Steen writes:
“ Is it possible […] to turn the text objects into outlines as part of the final output? Currently they export as text objects. Some users (Glowforge users, for sure) will need to pull your SVG into a vector program, like Illustrator, to complete the "Type" -> "Create Outlines" step before sending it to their laser.”

He adds,
“This is the closest I could come up with. However, it may fall apart when you get to some of the Unicode characters not found in typical Western ASCII sets (per the comments if the code gist): https://catherineh.github.io/.../02/01/text-to-svg-paths
