I get this, too, but I find opening the gist twice makes it work. It only seems to provide this error the first time.

I believe this is caused, at least in part, due to no entry in the gh-cache file that gets created at a location controlled by defmethod gh-api-set-default-auth . . .. The file location is in the user-emacs-directory and looks something like this: [user-emacs-directory]/gh/gh-gist-api/user-name. The error and related errors can be reproduced by deleting the cache and then selecting any entry in the gist-list. The first time an entry is selected, the cache file is either created (if it doesn't exist) or updated and the error message appears. Subsequent selections are without error because an updated entry in the cache file already exists. All errors can be fixed by selecting every gist in the gist list at least one time and then, of course, do not delete the cache file.
