Ubuntu 14.04, meteor 1.4.2.
Didn't work:

• meteor update
• meteor reset
• complete reinstall

empty files should exist."It would have likely fixed itself if you ran either meteor reset or if you removed your node_modules and ran npm install again." - check meteor issue 7647
