is there an option to force jigsaw not to create orphan elements like the one in the attached picture?

I'll close this one for now --- while I understand that non-face adj. cells may not be desirable for certain modelling cases, different workflows require that these features in fact be preserved. I think the best solution is to treat this question in a post-processing step, and allow the "correct" behaviour to be selected for the particular workflow.
