The problem

Any time I update this app it keeps doing two irritating things which may seem insignificant but are part of a "death by a thousand cuts" here.

  1. It keeps re-adding a shortcut, completely unnecessary.
  2. It keeps launching itself after the installation, completely unnecessary.

Both degrades the UX and appearance of this application. The end result is a less seamless experience than it could have been because it forces everyone to go through more steps than they actually need when installing and/or updating this application.

Release version

Version 3.2.7 (x64)

Operating system

Windows 10

Steps to reproduce the behavior

  1. Install Github Desktop.

or

  1. Update Github Desktop.

Thanks for the issue @NiklasBr.

It keeps re-adding a shortcut, completely unnecessary.

The desktop shortcut should be created on initial installation, but it shouldn't be recreated after an update unless a new bug was introduced. Nothing has changed around the installation flow recently, though. This was reported back in #2129 but was then fixed. Can you confirm it is happening on updates and not just the initial install?

We have received feedback about disabling shortcut creation, but at this time changing the installation flow isn't on our radar (#11837).

It keeps launching itself after the installation, completely unnecessary.

There is feedback being gathered about the installation experience in #1086 if you'd like to follow along there for any updates.

This has happened on pretty much every update to the application for the past year, I just had 30 minutes to finally say something about it when it happened for th umpteenth time this year.

I have posted in the linked issue. Thanks.
