Description

It appears that 3rd party access to myQ garage door openers is embattled to say the least and currently not functioning. As the Ring app allows connection to MyQ, I was wondering if that was somehow exposed to the API that is used in the Homebridge Ring plugin. It would be great to support this as it ‘might’ be a more stable solution.

I don't own a MyQ device, but I don't think there's any significant integration except via the app itself, i.e. nothing on the backend at the API level. My understanding is that it's just a link between the MyQ and Ring apps so that the Ring app receives push notifications for open/close from MyQ and can show status, but that's it. If you need to control the device it just redirects from the Ring app when you click it and it opens the MyQ app. Because all of this is done in the app, not in the backend APIs, there's not much that can be done here.

Also, it's important to note that I don't think MyQ is any more embattled than this plugin overall, although it may be slightly more troubles at this particular moment in time, but that seems mostly due to the fact that MyQ is tightening up their Outh flows more than anything else.

This plugin breaks from time-to-time as well, although Ring has been pretty tolerant of our behavior and I think they recognize that we try to make responsible use of their API, the reality is that everything here is just reversed engineered and Ring can make changes which break it at any time, just like the MyQ plugins. This project had a similar user-agent/auth issue just last year and various other issues with push notifications and streaming APIs this year.
