Hi, i keep getting this new grey "log in page" where, after i fill in my email and password on the fields, it pop´s : "please match the requested format"
what does this mean?
Then after many tries, i asked for new password but i don´t get any mail from Diaspora to reset my acount. I´m stuck.

Try logging in with your username instead of your email address. It looks like an email address doesn't pass the validations on the new login form (can't use anything with @ or .), so you have to use your username instead. I'm not sure if this is a bug or if it's the intended behavior.

Hi, stevenh512, thanks for your help. I tried that to, and, another pop up, (this time on the superior part of the page, instead), says : "invalid email or password"

Rigth, but, [my (email) and (username) are the same..] that´s how i´ve log in successfully dozens of times.

[ nuno_ramos@joindiaspora.com ] ,shows by default every time on my username field, but it never worked, from day one.

i tried that to many times. If i just write my profile name, Nuno Ramos another pop up says "invalid email or password"

your username is something like nunski, or something like that, which is why the form is now complaining.

when i check my account on my iphone i see my Diaspora ID : nuno_ramos@joindiaspora.com

and i see my email : nunski@gmail.com

there´s no username description there. To log in successfully in Diaspora, i just had to write my email on the username field and password, much like on other social networks.
always worked, until today.
So i dont get it obviously...

I open it on at work just now ! :)) the way i always did, (email on username field) so it must have been some bug , hopping that when i get home, it opens on my mac, thanks everybody :))

If your Diaspora ID is nuno_ramos@joindiaspora.com, then your username would be nuno_ramos.

I have just pulled the latest release onto my pod and I am seeing this issue. I have always used my email address to login. I have just had to ssh into the server and retrieve my username from the database(!).

Is there anyway to turn this off or am I going to have email each one of my users their username?

If your users know their Diaspora ID (name@yourpod.com) they should already know their username.. it's everything before the @. As @nunski said, the Diaspora ID shows by default every time you log in, so at least in theory most of your users should know their ID.

username vs. email address as the login credential is also a slight security optimization. Allowing login with an email address means that if I know your email address, I (as an outside hacker, not knowing your Diaspora ID amd not having an account on any pod) have half of what I need to brute-force my way into your account. If you're using a username that isn't necessarily related to your email address, I would have to know your Diaspora ID (meaning that someone, somewhere, would have my IP address and email address logged.. and possibly even my Facebok and Twitter.. because obviously I have an account) to attempt a brute-force attack.

@stevenh512 They don't know their Diaspora ID's - I use the pod as a private social network site for my family, they don't connect with users on other pods.
