I want to support diaspora* by posting news about my music band. What about we include fanpage? the advantages could be a link to the website of the company/music group/organisation, You can see the "fans" <- follower big in the headline and there can be different persons who can post as this account. Also its nice to have a visible difference between a anonymous person and an official company/music group/organisation.

Hmm was pretty sure we have a duplicate issue already regarding "page" like accounts, but couldn't find one.

Basically we could just expand the options for configuring an account. By for example allowing access control from other local users. Remote users are a bit trickier with the current architecture, I think this has been discussed somewhere.

Also its nice to have a visible difference between a anonymous person and an official company/music group/organisation.

What exactly do you mean by this?

I mean, that there could be a visual difference between private/anonymous persons and a company/band/organisation, that uses its official brand. Just to see the difference and also because fanpages could have different functions. :)

Will this be ever implemented, is it worth it?

So you think there should be some checkbox in your settings that specifies if your profile should “look different”? What visual difference do you have in mind?

Just to see the difference and also because fanpages could have different functions. :)

Would you mind telling us which different functions you were thinking of? And maybe also explain why other users wouldn't need those functions.

@svbergerem because for private users, "become friends" makes more sence, for music groups/organisations/brands a "follow" or "subscribe" button would be a better wording. Also a call to action button could be relevant, linked to a music video, website or shop. Not really needed for "private users". :)
And maybe the possibility to claim an "officially" status. Like the official, so called "fanpage" of a music group or a brand, so you know you talk with the right persons. BUT i have to admit: I don't know how to verify the officiality status.. :)

  1. Following an account has already been mentioned in Split sharing into sharing and following #6822.
  2. You can already add stuff to your bio (including links to a website/shop/music video and images which could look like a button) and with 0.6.0.0 you are able to make your bio public so everyone sees it when looking at your profile.
  3. “Official” accounts would have to be checked by podmins (I don't see anyone else who could do that) but since everyone could create their own pod everyone would be able to create an “official” account.

Is there anything else that one would need for “fanpages”?

@svbergerem Having multiple people who can post into the same account, without sharing credentials, i.e. having 'moderators' or 'admins' for a fan page account. My use case would be to have an account for our organization (we organize an annual Linux event), and to be able to allow multiple people to share the work of posting news.
