Questions about DROID data use and setup.

We are interested in one of your software tool DROID (Digital Record Object Identification) and we have some technical questions regarding the usage of this product. Would you be able to provide some info? Please see below:

Would there be any data collected by the tool during usage (Personal details, Credit card info, etc.)? Is this data stored? If so, what would this data be used for? Who can have access to it?
Does the software and data need to be backed up?
Will the network team need to work on the firewalls for SSO? Open port? Configure a server?
Is there any data integration? What protocol is used? ODC? ODBC? Script? API? OSI?
Is there any data transfer? What protocol is used? Smtp? Serial port? SFTP? DHCP? TCP?
Any middleware and connections to software are required? How are the connections secured? What maintenance goes into keeping the connections secure?

Hello, I'm writing the answers to each question in line. You may find that some answers are short one liners while others are long descriptions, please feel free to respond to this thread if you need any further clarification.

Droid is an open source tool which does not require you to provide any personal details or credit card information to use. As a result we do not ask for any of this information for download or use of Droid

No personal data needed

Does the software and data need to be backed up?
The software itself is a standalone utility and you can re-download it if needed or when setting up another machine. The tool functions mainly as a file format identification tool. The results of these identifications along with the parameters used for that particular run are stored on the computer in a well-known folder under the user area on the machine itself. It is a good idea to backup this information if you prefer to keep it for long term usage. These results are not communicated to us, they only exist on the machine where Droid is used.

Nothing out of ordinary. Once installed on your machine, the only communication that Droid does over internet is to check and update for newer file format identifications from our pronom registry. No special firewall configuration is needed.

The results that Droid generates are stored in a filesystem based DB on the machine itself. The reports rely on this data and use plain SQL with drivers embedded within the software. No special setup needs to be setup.

No data transfer takes place. In a situation where your files reside on a network drive, you may map the network drive and run Droid

No connections needed. Droid is a standalone desktop application which runs entirely on the machine where it is used.
