List existing MUC rooms on the user's server #307
Comments
I'd suggest having a checkbox "Show all rooms on server" instead, because most public servers (assuming most users are using public servers) are littered with empty rooms, and there's no point in showing all of those. |
You should be able to search for existing rooms too. |
Having a possibility (like in gajim) to specify server you want to see public list or rooms would be very beneficial. Specially when you see how it boosted popularity of matrix. |
If this is still active, i suggest changing the title to #414 since that includes this plus other services |
I think this feature is extremely important to user experience. Having a beautiful client like Dino with the ability to find rooms as easily as on other platforms would really help to drive the adoption of XMPP in my opinion. I would be willing to donate to see this issue start moving forwards, is that a possibility? Unfortunately I am not familiar enough with Vala or the XMPP specification to be able to contribute code myself. |
I also add to this, its a standard feature |
@Mumxek strage association "discover public rooms on private servers" :) |
When clicking "Join conference", dino should list existing rooms on the user's server.
Currently it only lists bookmarks.
The use case would be a company with its own xmpp server, and a MUC room per project. Listing all rooms would be much more user friendly than requiring users to know their xmpp address.
