follow-up from #651 (comment)

right now we should provide a better error msg or msg when user run version. If we can't detect version we should also say that an RPM is used or something like this

I think if the instructions instead had everyone use the releases as the standard install it might make this issue obsolete?

@FreekingDean I think we should support both methods. I have seen lot of users just building their own plugin from source. This should be ok.

I think the fix for this issue would be just an hint and correcting like the string.

either the terraform plugin was not builded correctly from source or packaged version was used something in this direction. I think this should be fine
