XFCE desktop isn't rendering when switching into jessie on Acer720 (intel graphics 4400) #1665
Comments
You can enter to the chroot without a desktop using You will have access to the chroot's file system then you can copy logs from previous sessions. Or when you starts XFCE you can open another console tab on ChromeOS a enter to the directory where the system was mounted |
Thanks, I am attaching some system information and I have located the Xorg logs. chronos@localhost ~ $ cat /etc/lsb-release localhost: chronos@localhost /tmp $ cat Xorg.crouton.1.log [ 1358.729] _XSERVTransmkdir: ERROR: euid != 0,directory /tmp/.X11-unix will not be created. [ 1358.764] xf86EnableIOPorts: failed to set IOPL for I/O (Operation not permitted) |
After updating my chroot today with chronos@localhost / $ sudo startxfce4 _XSERVTransmkdir: ERROR: euid != 0,directory /tmp/.X11-unix will not be created. X.Org X Server 1.16.4 |
I don't know if your problem is related with the first error But you can try this (leonid-shevtsov/headless#47) different cases but same error Inside your Chroot |
Thanks. I have tried that and it does get rid of the first error message but then still hangs inside the unresponsive xfce desktop. Also with my recent chroot update, now every time I enter the chroot desktop, my ChromeOS also starts to become unresponsive to clicks and mouse movements while wildly spinning the fan and then crashes. So I can't get to the Xorg logs of a live jessie session from ChromeOS either anymore. And after a reboot the Xorg logs of past sessions are gone too. |
More folks reported the same issue here: Some reported that running another crouton update has fixed their issues. Somehow I got out of the hanging X session without rebooting and was able to extract my latest Xorg logs: [ 69.953] _XSERVTransmkdir: ERROR: euid != 0,directory /tmp/.X11-unix will not be created. [ 69.989] xf86EnableIOPorts: failed to set IOPL for I/O (Operation not permitted) |
Looks like even more folks are reporting critical issues with X or graphics when switching into their chroot. Since I cannot do much about it, I'll just wait and keep updating my chroot hoping for a fix. |
I ran a complete chroot update yesterday but I am still getting an unusable xfce4 session. [ 62.267] _XSERVTransmkdir: ERROR: euid != 0,directory /tmp/.X11-unix will not be created. [ 62.430] xf86EnableIOPorts: failed to set IOPL for I/O (Operation not permitted) Normally though, as soon as switch into my chroot with sudo startxfce4, I don't see a fully rendered desktop and as soon as I click on any position, the system gets busy, the fan kicks at full speed and rarely would have any CPU cycles left to let me shift+ctrl+alt+left back into ChromeOS. Once I am back, the ChromeOS desktop also disappears with a few intermittent flashes.... |
Did you tried with another desktop like KDE, Gnome? or running Ubuntu with XFCE? |
Interesting. I wiped jessie and installed the default chroot with xfce and now everything works. |
You can have various chroots without delete previous. Use the parameter -n for example: sudo sh ~/Downloads/crouton -r jesise -t xfce -n mytest |
I just finished a fresh install of crouton jessie, xfce on my Acer C720.
But when I switch into the chroot, the desktop and none of the menu items are rendering at all.
I can only see the top xfce panel. When I right-click or left-click on the blank desktop sometimes I see a single icon from a context menu getting rendered.
Keyboard short-cuts to launch any apps while in the dark don't work either.
Switching back to ChromeOS disables my mouse and makes ChromeOS unresponsive as well.
Switching then back again to the chroot I can't see my mouse pointer anymore but I see strange colored lines attached to where the mouse pointer might be.
Since my chroot is unusable right from the start, I can't share any logs.
Unless there is way to get to the logs from ChromeOS...
