It would be nice to have an async API so we could, for example, concurrently build and push images more naturally.

There are https://pypi.org/project/aiodocker/
Bot it seems lost it's maintainer - last commit 2 years ago and no reaction to discussions in issues. :-(

As this project is bound to Requests, maintainers may want to investigate a migration to Niquests.
It's a drop-in replacement for the former and ships with both sync and async native interfaces.

Generating async interface from the synchronous counterpart should be straightforward.
