Per fess division, a fess ordinary and a fret are slightly elevated when emblazoned on an African shape escutcheon. Not so on an African main shield, where they are perfectly centered along the vertical axis. The placement should be consistent since the escutcheons are supposed to be treated exactly the same as a main shield.
