.
.SH "NAME"
\fBgit\-packrat\fR \- Put old branches in your attic, where you can forget about them
.
.SH "SYNOPSYS"
\fBgit packrat\fR [BRANCH]
.
.SH "DESCRIPTION"
Do you like branches? Even the ones that went nowhere?
.
.P
If you hate seeing your \fBgit branch\fR output cluttered with dead branches, yet can\'t bring yourself to just throwing that never\-to\-be\-merged code away, \fBgit packrat\fR may be for you\.
.
.SH "USAGE"
\fBgit packrat\fR takes a single argument: the name of a local branch\. To move a branch named \fBsome\-dead\-branch\fR into its \'attic\':
.
.IP "" 4
.
.nf
git packrat some\-dead\-branch
.
.fi
.
.IP "" 0
.
.P
This creates an \fBattic\fR bare repo in a parallel directory, \fBpush\fRes the branch to it, and finally deletes the local branch\.
.
.P
If you ever need to get it back, just check it out as you would any remote branch:
.
.IP "" 4
.
.nf
git checkout attic/some\-dead\-branch
.
.fi
.
.IP "" 0
.
