Y3 (onc) is supposed to be the same as Redmi 7 (onclite); however it turns out I'm the first to try, and it does not fully work.

List of steps required to install Droidian on Y3:

  • follow normal guide for onclite (I prefer manual route). Make sure to flash Android 9 Redmi Y3 image, not Redmi 7 (or else you might have random issues with mobile and bluetooth not working after reboot)
  • dtbo and vendor are missing from the archive, they have to be flashed from https://github.com/droidian-onclite/kernel-xiaomi-onclite/releases/
  • you need to flash boot.img on recovery slot, and turn on the device through recovery mode (Power + VolUp)

boot.img flashed in regular way does not work
(maaybe it's the offsets, kernel compilation guide could help with that)

Status: Wi-Fi works only for first 1-2 boots after flashing; after a few reboots, the driver consistently crashes.
But a lot of other things seem to just work. It needs confirmation with longer usage, but at least at some point of time I saw working: bluetooth, mobile data, calls, torch, camera, encryption, fingerprint.

Without Wi-Fi the device is useless to me, so I will either make it work or give up. I'm prepared to be alone in this, but if somebody else has the device and too much spare time, let me know so we can join our efforts :)

Note: currently the devices page claims Y3 is supported, which given the real state of the device should be changed. What do you prefer: should we split Y3 out and move it to potential/community category, or should there be a quick note pointing to this issue, in onclite's installation guide?
