How are you using Duplicati now? Currently backups are executed when they are scheduled to run. Often this interferes with the work that I am doing, e.g. compiling, linking or some other tasks that are significantly slowed down by Duplicati. How would you like it to work? I would like to have an option to let Duplicati run the backup only when computer goes into idle state (is not used). Would be especially cool if backup could be paused for the time when computer starts to be used again and continued when the next idle time comes. Are there special considerations to this request? Perhaps one should measure CPU/Disk load rather than monitoring keyboard and mouse as it could be that I am not using my computer, but running a build on it, which would be still slowed down by the backup.

You can set the priority of Duplicati to "idle". That should make it only run whenever nothing else is running, and thus have minimum impact on your work. But there can still be some contention on the disk etc, so there is perhaps need for such a feature.

A great feature would be an option to enable an unintrusive pop up to inform the user about an upcoming backup in some minutes with a button to postpone.

It could be combined with a check to only ask the user if the cpu load and disk usage is currently high. Another great check would be to test if the target is accessible (removable USB disk #996, network connection to the NAS on a laptop...)

I am also trying to figure out how to tell Duplicati to only start a backup if the computer has been idle for X minutes. If you are using windows, someone did write instructions on how to do it via task scheduler: https://forum.duplicati.com/t/run-backup-when-pc-is-idle/313/5

Just thought I would post that here in case anyone else is trying to do the same thing as us.

I would love this to be a native feature though! Are there any plans to add this feature?
