Accessibility was one of the reasons Foundation won out over Bootstrap for the EBI Framework.

Foundation has had a good approach for a couple versions now, with good accessibility structure and Aria support throughout. (Granted Bootstrap v4 plays a great deal of catchup, but that’s still in dev.)

We should do more to leverage these accessibility features and promote best practices in the v1.2 release.

There are some fundamental issues here that require discussion before we can really look at a technical solution (although Foundation gives us a head start on many of the basics):

  1. What areas are we lagging in?
  2. Do we have any known issues?
  3. What areas should we optimise for first (colour visibility? screen readers? physical motor skills?)
  4. How do we go about helping teams? Tested patterns and tools to test may be a good start.
  5. Other areas?

And if we make accessibility guidelines and no one uses them? We need a champion for this effort.

I've pulled from the v1.2 milestone as, at this point, we wouldn't be able to do much here that isn't lipstick on a pig. Needs deeper discussion.

NB: The Foundation Framework offers some initial starting points that could be helpful http://foundation.zurb.com/sites/docs/accessibility.html#learn-more

...Leading by examples.
My perception on accessibility is that the Web Dev team could be that champion as long we are motivated to do so.
